The Hungarian-Cuban Business Council held its general assembly on February 26, 2013, in Budapest, at the headquarters of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Following the welcome address by György Mosonyi, Vice President of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry responsible for international affairs, Ambassador Julio César Cancio Ferrer spoke about the Cuban economic reform processes. The Council’s agenda included the election of a new Hungarian co-chair, the admission of new members, and the adoption of the amended operating rules. The Council members present unanimously elected Tamás Gyenese, Managing Director of Denv-Air Kft., as the new co-chair of the Business Council. Tamás Gyenese advocated for coordinated and mutually supportive action by Hungarian companies in Cuba and offered to share his experience gained in the Cuban market. At the meeting, the Council members unanimously voted to admit ÉGT Kft., Gallicoop Zrt., Ganz Danubius Kft., and Robix Kft. as members. Three additional companies received membership candidate status with the possibility of later admission: Agrint Kft., Sunwo Zrt., and József Varga, sole proprietor. The amended operating rules, which include, among other things, the provision that the secretarial duties of the Council are performed by the International Directorate of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, were approved by the majority of members. The meeting concluded with a presentation of the 2013 programs concerning Cuban relations. The Hungarian-Cuban Business Council is expected to convene next in May.
